Undiscovered - New work for Brass Band

This is the first performance of my newest composition for brass band, Undiscovered, performed by the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Brass Band the night before their victory at Unibrass 2023 in Warwick. This piece was awarded the Best Composition Award at these Championships, and received high praise from the judges and audience alike.

The programme notes for this piece read:

"

Undiscovered is about sights as yet unseen. It is a glimpse of an unknown time and place that lies ahead of you, and that can only be viewed with apprehension and awe. It is the feeling of not knowing what will happen, but trusting that it will be worth waiting for.

This piece explores the feelings of optimistic uncertainty experienced when undertaking a transitional stage of life. The transition from childhood to adolescence to adulthood; the start of a new career, a new chapter; or perhaps the adjustment to life without someone who was there before. In every case, the way ahead is unclear, but there is still the hope that it is worth discovering.
