For the second year in a row, I am pleased to announce that I have received the award for the Best Student Composition at the Unibrass Championships.
On the 11th February, I had the pleasure of accompanying the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Brass Band to Unibrass 2023 in Warwick. The band performed my newest composition, Undiscovered, to the esteemed panel of adjudicators and audience in Warwick's Butterworth Hall. RBC's performance also earned them their second overall title in 2 years, making it a successful title defence for both myself and the band.
Phillip Harper, director of the Cory Band and adjudicator at Unibrass, called the piece 'an excellent number', and British Bandsman, in their live commentary, commented that they would very much like to hear the piece again.
I am grateful for the support and commitment to playing new music from RBC's director of Brass Band, Ian Porthouse, and the tireless rehearsal and professionalism from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Brass Band and their Masters conductor, Matthew Ludford King.
Undiscovered will be made available to listen to in due course, and the score will be available to purchase for any band interested in performing it.
